DALMATION DOGS – A LOVABLE GOOFY BREED

The Dalmation dog is best known for its appearance as stars of the screen in 101 Dalmations, the Walt Disney classic. Going back in history they were originally used as coach dogs for the land and gentry. Then moving in to more working dog roles, including hunting and firehouse dogs.

The personality of the Dalmation is quite diverse, one moment, all giddy and excited, then in the blink of an eye, turns into a very loyal lovable fireside dog. Along with this personality comes the need for lots of exercise to appease there extraordinary energy levels. They are very sociable, friendly dogs and want to be part of any action thats going on, which makes for the perfect family pet. So if your looking for a dog that is intelligent, easily trainable with a bounding personality, that can be your perfect running partner, a Dalmation is the ideal breed to fit your life.

DALMATION PENCIL PORTRAIT DRAWINGS – CAPTURING THEIR PERSONALITY

When ordering a Dalamation pencil pet portrait you want to be sure that the artwork will capture your Dalmations individual characteristics and unique personality. As with all my artwork commissions I capture the finest of details by blowing up my photographic reference 300%-400% actual size. This results in a stunning drawing that is photorealistic, that more often that not brings tears of joy to my customers eyes.

The photographic reference is key when drawing a pet pencil drawing, I usually ask for 3-5 photographs to work from. This gives me a broad spectrum of different poses and colourations in order to get the colour and scale of your dog perfect.

Not sure if your photo’s are good enough quality for me to work from? No problem, give me a call or drop me an email, I will happily let you know if your reference is good enough. If they are not quite up to the mark I can advise you on the best way to achieve great photo reference that I can work from. Take a look at my photo guide page on my site, it may help you when taking your photos.

The coat of a Dalmation is very different to most breeds, usually short, fine, and very dense. This makes for the perfect subject to draw, their coats sit tight to there frame and give an exacting shape to their body form, reflecting their stature and reflect their strength.

Nowadays with the technology available from smart phones, its a lot easier to shoot away until you capture the perfect photo of your Dalmation.

MOVEMENT SHOT

Capturing an action shot of your Dalmation can prove slightly more tricky than the previous pose options. The bounding energy of your Dalmation will take a few practice photos to capture the perfect picture. That said once you do catch the perfect photo, allowing me to turn it into a beautiful pencil drawing will reflect the true bounding personality of your Dalmation. With an action shot there will be a slight blur to the body, which will help emphasise its motion. As long as the facial area has clarity and good definition it will make for excellent reference.
