If you are looking for a hand drawn horse drawing then your at the right place, whether you are looking for a simple black and white horse portrait drawing or you’re looking for a more grand full colour A2 full horse portrait drawing in colour I can do whatever you require.
A lot of people prefer an A3 black and white head portrait of their horse, mainly because these can be position easily in a frame and placed on a shelf or on the wall without taking too much room up. Saying that, depending on the size of the wall it is to be positioned, a more grand A2 full colour drawing can look stunning if that is your preference.
Whatever size and pose of horse drawing you are looking for, please get in touch I would love to talk over any ideas or thoughts you may have and I can guarantee you will be amazed at the results.
Having a great photo is key to any artist creating a great horse portrait drawing. Horse pencil portraits that have a very high level of realism make amazing drawings. The photorealistic nature of a high quality horse drawing is what every artist wants to achieve, yet only a handful can achieve. I work to the smallest of details using only the most detailed of reference to ensure all my horse drawing portraits have an extremely high level of realism that is often hard to distinguish the drawing from the photograph.
The type of pose you are wanting can vary quite a lot with horse drawings, from a head portrait drawing to the full horse in a standing pose and even poses of a horse jumping. Depending on what pose you are wanting can depend quite a lot on the size you have the horse drawing. Obviously if you are wanting a full figure pose of your horse, the size will need to be a minimum of A3 in order to capture a high level of detail, if it is any smaller the detail will be lost as the drawing will be too small to capture it.
The favoured type of horse portrait drawing is the head shot, a 3/4 angle of the horses head, often still wearing its bridle and reins. This style of horse drawing allows for a lot of detail to be captured with the pose being quite close up. Coloured horse drawing portraits are the favoured medium as well, as the colour of a horse is very much part of its identity and black and white just doesn’t give such clear visual representation.
You may have more than one photo you would like to use? Maybe the head pose of one horse with the background or setting of another, this is fine, photo reference often has to be combined to achieve the perfect horse portrait drawing. Just send all photos over with a brief explanation and I will send back a proof of the reference to be used.
If you have any special requirements for the horse drawing, please let me know at the time of ordering and I will do all I can to meet your needs. For example, your horse drawing may be for someones birthday? if this is the case please stipulate this with your order so I can meet your timeframe.
As mentioned above the horse portrait drawing can only a high level of realism if the reference is good enough, if the detail is not in the photo, for the most part, the detail won’t be in the drawing.
I can use a lot of artistic license, but if I go too far away from the reference the subject can start to look unlike its true identity. So remember, perfect reference, perfect portrait.
Once I receive your horse portrait order, I will work to exceed your expectations, If I dont get a reaction from all my customers, starting with “Oh wow” I am not happy, and to date, all my orders have. Once the drawing is complete I will send you a proof of the drawing to ensure you are 100% happy prior to sending it to you, and don’t worry I won’t ask for full payment until you are happy.
Even if you in the early stages of thinking about ordering a horse drawing please feel free to drop me an email, I may be able to advise on the best size or style to help you decide. But that aside its best to get in touch as I get booked up quite quickly so is best to get the order in the diary even if you haven’t decided on the photo you would like me to use.
There is a lead time on most horse portrait drawings or 3-8 weeks, this is dependent on the size and whether you would like a colour or black and white portrait, and obviously what current orders are in the diary. That said if you are looking for a smaller black and white horse drawing I can sometimes fit these in between my bigger orders.
For a rough guide on prices, please take a look at my order page. This will give you an idea on prices for colour and black and white drawings in a range of standard sizes, as well as framing and postage costs. If you are looking for a bespoke size, please let me know and I will respond asap with a concise cost breakdown.
To make your order official all I need is a date you require the horse drawing, the size and style you would like and whether you would like it framed and mounted. Then just a small 20% deposit will secure the order. You can then send the photo you would like at a later date, in the knowledge you order is already in place.
Horse lovers are devoted in every way, shape and form to their horses. They have a very close bond with them and care for them day in day out. This is why horse pencil drawings can make the perfect gift for the horse lover in your life. A portrait of their beloved horse adorning their home making them feel closer to them even when not with them.
I can personalise your order if required, with a simple message on the drawing, maybe a few lines or even the horses name in a decorative font, this can add that little something special to make your horse drawing present the most unique gift to give.
Every artist has a signature subject and style that they are reputed to be extremely proficient in, with myself it is portraits, horse portraits, people portraits and animals portraits. Colour is the style I am most at home with as well as the preferred choice by the majority of my customers.
For me the passion I have to achieve the most photorealistic horse portrait drawing far exceeds any interest in the amount of money I receive for them. For me it is all about creating a horse portrait that people look at every day in wonder and amazement of how it has been achieved.
Hyper realism is the level I aim to achieve with all my horse drawings, the reference determines this to some degree, but a level of realism that is parallelled to a photo is the aim of any great hypoer realism artist.
