LIFESTYLE PENCIL PORTRAIT DRAWINGS

When thinking about commissioning a pencil portrait drawing, using a lifestyle photo taken in the moment can make for an amazingly natural pencil portrait. Using a photograph of the subject just enjoying life, maybe wandering along a beach with the wind blowing through their hair, or just sat at home reading, will convey a very relaxed perspective of the overall drawing to the viewer.

The majority of my previous work is so varied I can honestly say their isn’t one favourite setting, style or pose for a lifestyle pencil portrait drawing that people generally go for. Its basically a photo that strikes a cord with that particular individual, whether its the look on the subjects face or a beautiful setting they are in, whichever photo it is you choose for you lifestyle pencil portrait drawing, it has to be one that when you look at makes you smile and evokes happy memories.

PENCIL PORTRAIT DRAWING – LIFESTYLE SETTING

As mentioned when commissioning a lifestyle pencil portrait drawing, you need to capture that one look or setting that evokes happy memories and gives you a warm feeling. When I undertake any pencil portrait I work to an extremely high level of detail, creating a photorealistic finish to the artwork.

In order to get a photo realistic finish to the pencil portrait, the photographic reference needs to be extremely clear. With all my pencil portrait drawings I do I prefer 2-3 photos of the subject themselves, just so I can capture the exact bone structure and facial details. Having photos from different angles and in different light will help me achieve the perfect balance. With lifestyle pencil portraits capturing that one shot can more often than not be duplicated in various angles, so the additional photos can be in any setting, these will just help me get a more global viewpoint on the subject to be drawn.

For your lifestyle pencil portrait, you may want me to combine two photos to create the perfect memory for you. For instance a photo of someone dressed in the finery, but you may want them to be set within a backdrop of a beach scene, this is fine. I quite often have to combine two photos to create the perfect pencil portrait drawing.

You may have questions about the quality of your photos, and whether they are good enough to use as reference for your lifestyle pencil portrait. Not a problem, get in touch with me and if you can email them over I can discuss this with you. The rule of thumb in this matter is, if the photo is extremely crisp and has a sharp focus, then generally it will be good enough for me to use. When I work on all my pencil portraits I blow the reference up to 300% on my iPad so the reference needs clarity and be shot in good light. For more help on this please view my photo guide, it may be of use.

Your pencil portrait in a lifestyle setting can be created in black and white or full colour depending on your preference. It can also be done to whatever size you would like, from A5 all the way up to A2, please see my prices/ordering page for further details.

    THAT PERFECT MOMENT IN TIME

Looking which photo to choose for your lifestyle pencil portrait can take a while, like most people, you may have hundreds of photos to trawl through, but the key is if you have that one photo that is a place or moment in time that evokes happy memories then that’s the winner.

Once the reference photo is chosen, you will then need to decide whether you want your portrait drawing in black and white or full colour. A lot of people opt for black and white purely on the fact it adds more mood and emotion to the drawing. In terms of the size you can have your pencil portrait, my sizes range from a smaller A5 size right up to a grand A2 size (16×24″). The size can quite often depend on the quality of the reference and obviously the space you would like it to be hung. Please view my order/prices page for all sizes available, basically you can have your pencil portrait drawing any size you wish.

Throughout the process of me doing your pencil portrait drawing I will send you regular updates as I progress the artwork. When finished I will send you a final proof to make sure you are completely happy with the drawing prior to me sending it to you.
