    My style for all child pencil portraits I undertake is photo-realistic, capturing every detail to give it a lifelike appearance. With child portraiture, the main key is to capture their personality and cheeky side, giving the portrait an individual and unique look. Prior to undertaking a child portrait drawing, as well as obtaining the best visual reference that captures their look perfectly, I also like to get a bit of a description of their character, to help me capture the essence of their personality.

    Having good photographic reference is a vital part of achieving a great child pencil portrait. I can discuss this with you if you are unsure on how to achieve this, or please feel free to email me the reference you have and I will let you know if the quality is good enough to use for reference. I also have a photo guide which may help you to achieve the best reference for your child portrait. If possible I like to work from 2-3 different photographs, this helps me get a true representation of their skin tones, hair colour and more importantly their personality in a colour portrait.     TYPES OF PENCIL PORTRAIT DRAWINGS OF CHILDREN?

    With child portraits the main style I’m always ask to commission is one of a child that is laughing or giggling. This type of child portrait evokes a warm feeling and makes most people smile. Showing a childs’ cheeky side makes the perfect piece of artwork as it captures the  natural adventuring spirit of children. As with all parents they have pictures of their child when they were younger, playing in mud or getting up to some mischief, this type of child portrait is timeless and will always remind the viewer of happy memories, captured in a wonderful black and white or colour portrait.  Please see prices/order page for full list of sizes.

    CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE SUBJECT IN MY CHILD PENCIL PORTRAIT?

    Yes of course, a child portrait doesn’t have to be the stereotypical front on portrait of your child. A lot of my customers like to show 2-3 different pictures of their child, maybe one central portrait in full colour, with 2 or three smaller drawings around it, showing them maybe giggling or holding their favourite toy.     This couldn’t be easier, if you go onto my order/prices page choose the style and size you would like, either full colour or black and white, then give me a quick call or email me to pay the 25% deposit. From this point I will be in touch to discuss the photographs to be used and any other details you would like to talk about. If the type of portrait you want isn’t shown on the order page, don’t worry, just give me a call, I can accommodate whatever type of portrait you would like, its just impossible to have every variation of portrait listed on the order page.
