PENCIL PORTRAIT DRAWINGS OF CHILDREN
My style for all child pencil portraits I undertake is photo-realistic, capturing every detail to give it a lifelike appearance. With child portraiture, the main key is to capture their personality and cheeky side, giving the portrait an individual and unique look. Prior to undertaking a child portrait drawing, as well as obtaining the best visual reference that captures their look perfectly, I also like to get a bit of a description of their character, to help me capture the essence of their personality.
Having good photographic reference is a vital part of achieving a great child pencil portrait. I can discuss this with you if you are unsure on how to achieve this, or please feel free to email me the reference you have and I will let you know if the quality is good enough to use for reference. I also have a photo guide which may help you to achieve the best reference for your child portrait. If possible I like to work from 2-3 different photographs, this helps me get a true representation of their skin tones, hair colour and more importantly their personality in a colour portrait. If you would like a child portrait drawing but have a few questions, no problem, drop me a line and I will talk through things with you.
