PENCIL PORTRAITS OF GIRLS
Pencil portraits of children have to be the highest scoring on the cuteness scale, over all other types of pencil portraits. This is mainly due to the nature of children, their cheeky smiles and pure looks that they have, gives an instant appeal. In order to capture every detail and achieve the highest quality pencil portrait I insist on good quality reference. Photographic reference that is blurred or lacking in definition will be reflected in the drawing quality, if the detail is not in the photo it cannot be captured in the pencil portrait. The difference with pencil portraits of girls over pencil portraits of boys is that little girls quite often have the most beautiful hair, natural long wavy beautifully coloured hair, making drawings of girls naturally beautiful.
Capturing this pure beauty in a reference photo is relatively easy, as the natural look and purity of young girls shines through in every photo no matter what the setting. As with most parents they will have literally hundreds of photos of their children, so the battle will be choosing their favourite rather than struggling to take a photo. If you do wish to take a new photo for use as reference for the pencil portrait then it will be best to take any photos outside to get the best light balance and achieve the best colouration using the natural light, and snap away just make it a relaced affair and youll be suprised at the shots you will get.
If you are taking new photos, the only thing to bare in mind is to have a good focus and
definition to the central area of the face and hair. This will allow me to capture a high level of detail and achieve the best pencil portrait in terms of both quality and realism. When you have the photos you would like me to use for the drawing of your child please feel free to email them over and I will check the quality is good enough prior to starting work.
In this era of smartphones and digital cameras, photo prints are a little more rare to use as
reference for a pencil portrait drawing, that said, I am still happy to use photo prints just so long as the detail and definition of the subject(s) is there. I will simpy scan the print in and enlarge it on my iPad when drawing the portrait, using the iPad allows me to zoom in work on minute detail easily.
Once the pencil portrait is finished it can be sent to you mounted and framed or supplied rolled in a protective tube. Please let me know your preference at the time of ordering so I can order the frame in sync with your delivery.

PENCIL PORTRAITS OF GIRLS – MORE THAN ONE SUBJECT
Sometimes when I am commissioned to undertake a pencil portrait I am asked to include more than one subject into the drawing. This can make for a very interesting portrait drawing, a main portrait drawing in the centre, surrounded by a few ad-hoc portraits of the same subject or even different subjects. When opting for a multi subject pencil portrait it is a popular option to choose 2-3 additional subjects that compliment the main central subject. For example the central drawing may be a close up of a young girl, simply head and sholders, then surrounding this can be a mix of other smaller drawings. These additional supporting drawings can be of other poses of the same subject or can be something or someone different, maybe the family dog or loved pet.
When ordering a multi subject portrait drawing, please send across with your initial order all the photos you would like me to include. I will then create you a photographic proof combining all the photos to ensure you are completely happy with the overall look and composition prior to me starting work on the drawing.
COLOUR PENCIL PORTRAITS OF GIRLS
Colour pencil portrait or black and white, this is the question….and can sometimes be a
question that takes a while to answer. Although black is a very popular choice, colour has its own very desirable qualities in a pencil portrait. The vivid depth of realism is primarily what stands colour apart from black and white, although black and white can be hyperrealistic,
colour has that added element of realism. If it is a colour portrait drawing you would like, do be aware that the timeframes are two to three times longer than undertaking a black and white drawing.
B/W PENCIL PORTRAITS OF GIRLS
Black and white pencil portraits offer their very own unique style of both atmosphere and
emotion that gives a completely different feel to colour pencil portraits. As with colour portrait drawings the viewer is captured by the overall colour and lifelike appeal of the subjects, whereas with black and white, being single tone, draws the viewer more to focus on the subject and character of the pose.
Both colour and black and white pencil portraits from Personal Artworks UK offer an unrivalled level of realism and quality. But remember this quality can only be achieved if the reference is of high quality also.
