HOW TO ORDER A PENCIL PORTRAIT
Ordering a personalised pencil portrait can be tricky thing to think about. Whether it be of a loving pet you have, or maybe a drawing of a loved one that may have passed, choosing the perfect photo to use for the drawing can be a difficult process.
As with most pet owners, having a good selection of photographs of your pet is quite a normal situation. That said, choosing just one to be your favourite is a slightly harder thing to achieve. In terms of using the photograph for visual reference for a pencil portrait there are a few requirements that may help you when selecting the best photo for your portrait drawing.
1. The photo needs to be clear with good tone and definition of shapes and features.
2. The photo needs to be a good size (if a print – no smaller than A6)
3. The photo needs to be high resolution (if a digital copy – 12cm x 10cm size – (300dpi resolution)
If you have a 2-3 photos you have wittled your selections down to then you have a few choices from here.
1. The obvious one is, you select just one from to use as reference.
2. I can combine all three photos into a group portrait drawing, I quite often do this for customers.
With a group drawing there is usually one central subject, the largest drawing, surrounded by two or three other subjects. For example, you could have central a large head shot of your dog, surrounded by three other smaller drawings of different poses of your dog. This can make for a very special drawing denoting different aspects of the main subject.
Once you have chosen the style and pose you would like for your pencil portrait, you know need to decide the size. If you are looking for a single subject, your size can be anything from A4 upwards. If you are looking at a group portrait drawing the size will need to be minimum A3 in order to capture enough detail of each subject to give it a high level of realism.
Next thing to chose is would you like the pencil portrait in colour or black and white? this is a personal preference and you may have already decided on this prior to starting this process.
The last thing to choose is would you like your portrait drawing mounted and framed? Please let me know at the time of ordering the drawing so I can order your drawing to be ready for when the portrait is finished.
